The ERC Consolidator project “GLOBAL” aims to unravel the evolutionary history, diversification and impact of extinction of tropical rain forests (TRF) at a global scale. The project focuses on the pantropical Annonaceae plant family, an important component of TRF worldwide with around 2500 species. During the project we aim to sequence all (ca. 2500, one individual per species) species with 300 Annonaceae-specific exons and the angiosperm universal exons (353). This dataset will provide one of the first robust and near-complete phylogenies of any major pantropical plant family to date. Additional data will be complied documenting the family's morphological, geographical and chemical diversity. These datasets will be used to test numerous TRF evolutionary hypotheses and estimate the impact of extinction on Annonaceae diversity at a global scale.
Within this project we have two post doc positions opening for the fall of 2023. The start dates are between September and October 2023. Place of Employment and Work: Both post docs will be based within the “Institut de Recherche pour le Développement” (IRD), UMR DIADE, DYNADIV team, 911 Avenue Agropolis, Montpellier France. Montpellier is a pleasant Mediterranean town with a vibrant and internationally recognized research community, especially in evolutionary biology (University of Montpellier). POST DOC A: 24 month postdoc on "Testing major diversification models of tropical rain forest evolution at a global scale" Using an available dated near-complete species level phylogeny of Annonaceae (ca. 2300/2500 tips), the post doc will lead large scale macroevolutionary analyses to test numerous long standing hypotheses about the evolution and diversification of rain forests at a global scale. Deadline of applications post doc A: 15th May 2023 (23:59pm, Paris Time) --> See here for more details about this post doc A. POST DOC B: 24 month post doc on "Multidimensional conservation of global rainforest diversity: Extinction risk and loss of evolutionary history within the pantropical family Annonaceae" Using a number of large (mostly ) available datasets documenting the diversity of the ca. 2500 Annonaceae species (phylogenetic, morphological, geographical, chemical), the post doc will lead an innovative research project testing hypotheses linked to the impact of Annonaceae species extinction on the evolutionary history of rainforests and generate conservation predictions in the future. These results will be compared to similar results obtained for birds and mammals at broad spatial scales. Deadline of applications post doc B: 31th May 2023 (23:59pm, Paris Time) --> See here for more details about this post doc B. Contact: All questions about the project or the employment conditions, can be directly addressed to Thomas Couvreur, thomas.couvreur@ird.fr. Make sure you specify in the object of your email for which position your are inquiring (post A or B).
